一、研究专长
宏观社会语言学、语言规划、中国的语言与民族问题、汉语作为第二语言教学。
二、学术经历
美国密执安州立大学语言博士，专攻：形式语义学、第二语言习得。
曾任美国俄勒岗大学讲师，美国科罗拉多大学助理教授，美国宾夕法尼亚迪金森学院副教授。
现为美国马里兰大学副教授、中文部主任、东亚研究中心主任。

概述汉语全球化的几大特征、探讨中国国际汉语推广与语言规划的理论关系，提出社区语言习得管理模式，讨论社区语言习得管理模式在国际汉语推广中的运用，为中国的国际汉语推广工作提供具有指导意义的理论基础。
